On Tuesday March 31st, Anne (Annie) Morcone of Chevy Chase, Maryland and formerly of Milford, Massachusetts passed peacefully surrounded by family after a long illness brought on by a stroke.
Annie was born in Nice, France to parents Louis Jean Marie Beauffet of Saint-Étienne, France and Christine Jeanne Cravea of Murialdo, Italy. She was one of three daughters. She came to the United States in 1954 after marrying Louis R. Morcone. They later divorced. She was a loving mother, sister and friend. Her passion for food and love of her French heritage prompted her to found American Gourmet Foods in 1985. She built a successful company importing specialty food products from France, Italy and Spain that spanned 23 years, serving the entire eastern seaboard and employing hundreds of people. Annie and her company were trailblazers who were at the forefront of the food revolution that began in the 80's. Anne Morcone was a visionary. She sold the company and retired in 2008. She will be missed by many.
Annie was a free spirit who danced to her own beat. Whether it was politics, career or fashion, she made bold individual choices. When faced with adversity she never hesitated to stand up for herself, her family and her company. She lived life to the fullest and we are all better for having been in her circle.
Annie is survived by her children, Simone "Cookie" Boyer (Gerard Boyer), Michelle C. Morcone (Robert Olmert), Robert L. Morcone, Paul J. Morcone, Steven A. Morcone (Roberta Rodriguez Morcone), Jacqueline J. Morcone (Robert Ladany); her sister, Suzanne Marie Collins; her grandchildren, Carol Boyer Cappellacci (Joel Cappellacci), Karine Boyer Nguyen (Quoc Nguyen), Paige Ladany Meszaros (Zachary Meszaros), Melissa Olmert, Megan Ladany, Julia Ladany; her great grandchildren, Flora Cappellacci and Johanna Cappellacci. Her sister, Helene Braswell, preceded her in death.
Family and friends are invited to call at Joseph Gawler's Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20016 on Friday April 10th. Visitation from 10-11am. A Funeral Service will begin at 11am followed by a reception to celebrate her life.
