WILLIAM H. FORT

A retired Washington lawyer, who spent almost his entire life in the Washington area, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26, 2016 in Bethesda, Maryland. Born November 29, 1943 in Washington, D.C., he was raised in Montgomery County, MD and graduated from Deerfield Academy and Lafayette College and received a law degree from the Washington College of Law, American University. WILLIAM H. FORT

A retired Washington lawyer, who spent almost his entire life in the Washington area, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 26, 2016 in Bethesda, Maryland. Born November 29, 1943 in Washington, D.C., he was raised in Montgomery County, MD and graduated from Deerfield Academy and Lafayette College and received a law degree from the Washington College of Law, American University. Beginning in 1973, Mr. Fort practiced shipping law and administrative law in private practice in Washington, D.C. with the law firm of Fort and Schlefer. He was a past member of the American Bar Association, the Maritime Law Association of the United States and the Maritime Administrative Bar Association in which he served as a board member and past president. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, gardener and a member of the Chevy Chase Club and the Pine Tree Golf Club (FL). He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda B. Fort; his brother and sister, John F. Fort III and Deborah Fort; his two sons, David J. Fort and William D. Fort; his daughters-in-law, Allison Fort and Tricia Fort; and his four grandchildren, Anna Fort, David Fort, Laura Fort, and William Fort.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday January 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Metropolitan Memorial United Methodist Church 3401 Nebraska Avenue NW Washington, DC 20016. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Fort's name to the Lymphoma Research Foundation or to Metro House.
